What is Migraine?

It is an intense headache. It’s often hereditary. It causes intense pain lasting hours to more than a day. Its exact cause is unknown.

Are there different catagories of migraine?

Yes. Included are:
Acute migraine headache
Chronic migriane headache
Menstrual migraine
Other types

Do they all have the same symptoms?

No. Some are associated with an aura that proceeds the headache. Those with aura may experience flashing lights, floating light outlines and blind spots in their vision.

What is its Cause?

No one knows. We do know that there are migraine triggers including:

• Foods
• Fluids, such as wine, caffeine containing liquids, alcohol etc.
• Changes in atmospheric pressure
• Aromas
• Stress
• Artificial sweeteners
• Exercises

What is the cure?

There is none, but there is migraine management where the intensity and frequency of the headaches can be reduced. We use a variety of medications including over-the counter medications when appropriate. There is also a new intranasal injection referred to as a sphenopalatine block.
